Mosquitoes can be a real nuisance and can easily overtake your outdoors, making any beautiful evening unpleasant. Aside from the annoying, painful bites, mosquitoes are also known to carry diseases such as West Nile Virus. All Pest Management  is a leader in providing Long Island mosquito control for our residential and commercial customers.
When the weather heats up and the mosquitoes come out for a bite, make sure you have the right exterminator on your side.

What Do Mosquitoes Eat?

While most people know that mosquitoes drink blood, one little-known fact is that it’s only the females. Blood-feeding females have piercing-sucking mouth parts and usually must ingest a blood meal in order to develop eggs. The proteins and amino acids present in plasma create the perfect prenatal cocktail for the mother mosquito.

Males do not bite for blood, they, and other females receive their nutrients from nectar, honeydew and fruit juices.

How Are Mosquitoes Attracted to Your Home?

If you are a
homeowner who loves to over water your lawn or potted plants, then it’s
highly likely that you have a mosquito problem during the warmer Texas
months. Mosquitoes love locations that are damp and wet. Moist locations
are the best spots for them to breed and lay eggs.

Other reasons that mosquitoes may be hanging around your home and family include:

  • Dark colors
  • Floral scents
  • Alcohol consumption (it makes your skin a mosquito magnet from chemicals and elevated body heat)
  • Mosquitoes are attracted to pregnant women due to higher blood temperatures and general blood amounts in the body

Possible Diseases From Mosquitoes

There are around 45 species of mosquitoes on Long Island alone, so it’s no surprise amongst all of the transfusions and blood collecting, the possibility of disease from mosquitoes is present.

Adult females bite and may transmit diseases such as:

  • Malaria
  • West Nile
  • Yellow Fever
  • Denge
  • Encephalitis
